Spectris, LLum

A light installation on the steps of Disseny Hub Barcelona that uses dichroic film to refract projected light into shifting spectrums, with two fields driven by live global news data on truth and misinformation.

Space Design

The installation uses dichroic film arranged on glass planes placed in intervals across the steps outside Disseny Hub Barcelona. The material refracts white light projected from the side of the steps into shifting spectrums of colour, bringing Jardíns d’Elisava to kaleidoscopic life. Some panels remain static, while others are mounted on pivoting systems, allowing visitors to alter their angles and, in turn, the spread of refracted light.

The light across the steps is divided into two fields — the right responding to articles containing the keywords “truth” and “fact-check,” and the left reacting to “false” and “misinformation.” Data drawn from a global news API causes each side to fluctuate independently in brightness and tone as new articles are published. The shifting balance between the two brings a visible tension between competing narratives into public space, fracturing it like a glitch in the matrix and thus echoing the algorithmic divides that shape our collective perception of truth.
